Lantern Launches New Program to Support Families Raising Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

DENVER, CO, September 26, 2025 – Parenting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) comes with unique joys—and unique challenges. Now, parents and caregivers have an evidence-based, supportive, and free resource right at their fingertips as they navigate this journey.

Designed specifically for parents and caregivers raising a child with suspected or diagnosed ASD, families who text the word ASD to 274 448 will receive text messages offering practical tips, emotional support, and helpful resources to guide them through their parenting experience.

About 1 in 31 children (3.2%) in the United States are diagnosed with ASD (a condition that affects how a person thinks, learns, and interacts with others) by the time they are 8 years old. Families of children with ASD often face higher rates of stress, anxiety, and isolation. Without adequate support, these challenges can impact both the child’s and caregivers’ well-being.

Lantern’s new text series supports families for a period of 9 months and is offered in English, Spanish, and Arabic. Messages are completely free for families, and meant for anyone caring for a child ages 2-10 with diagnosed or suspected ASD. Created in collaboration with experts in child development and autism support, the messages focus on building resilience and confidence in parents while offering:

  • Practical information on how to get connected to resources for both child and parent
  • Tips for managing challenging behaviors and building routines
  • Guidance on navigating school and community resources
  • Mental health and self-care tools for parents and caregivers

“We know that raising a child with ASD can sometimes feel overwhelming and isolating,” said Jodie Fishman, Chief Content Officer for Lantern. “This new program was created to remind parents they are not alone, and to provide them with simple, trusted support each week that can make a real difference for their family.”

Families can sign up anytime by texting ASD to 274 448 or by completing a brief form at www.mylantern.org/ASD. Participants’ information is never shared or sold. Families who complete the first survey will be eligible to enter a drawing for a free, sensory-friendly bed from Cubby Beds.

Lantern’s ASD text messaging series is part of a larger program, which delivers evidence-based early childhood information to more than half a million parents and caregivers of children, prenatally through age 10, across the United States. Lantern is proven to strengthen families, promote healthy child development, and improve school readiness.
